Tiga Talk Speech Therapy Games App Reviews

Some Problems

On the iPad (possibly its different on the iPhone) it does not differentiate between sounds. For example, if it is asking for /b/ and you say /g/, it praises as though youve said the sound correctly. Bummer - its a great idea.

Needs some serious updates

This app gives the students praise for saying the sound incorrectly, you can say just about anything and it will say "yayyyy you did it"... Great idea but horrible for speech therapy because we are trying to reinforce correct productions of the sounds.

Disappointing

great concept, but does not discriminate between speech sounds and reinforces incorrect productions.

app responds to any sound as a correct response

which is the worst possible outcome for an app with this purpose.

Just needs a little adjustment to be a winner

You are definitely on the right track. I hope youll listen to feedback to improve this. The games are so much fun, the mouth close-ups of each sound being made are very instructional, so 3 stars for that. This could so easily be five stars...if not for the reinforcement issue. While I couldnt help but laugh when my son said "poo poo" and laughed gleefully when it was accepted as "pl", the idea is to encourage good speech. PLEASE just add a setting to silence the reinforcement of incorrect sounds, and perhaps plus or minus signs on the screen that a parent or speech therapist (or the child, if self-monitoring) could tap to trigger the proper response. If the reinforcement issue gets fixed, youll really have a gem that I can recommend to other professionals and parents.

Very good app!

This app has been fantastic for my son. I agree with the other reviewers that it reinforces incorrect pronunciation but hopefully that can be improved. It is one of if not the only app that is interactive and responds to kids speech! My son was shy about his language delay and wouldnt always use words in front of people. If the app had not encouraged him so much he may have given up even though his articulation was wrong at first. TigaTalk was so encouraging that he stuck with it!! Maybe they could create settings for early talkers (where any attempt is praised) and for more experienced talkers who just need articulation help the praise would be for correct pronunciation only. Please make more Tiga apps!

Not for iphone 4S

The only reason Im giving it 2 stars is because Iv tried it on my dads iPad and it worked fine. it seems to have problems with the iPhone 4S however, the microphone does not pick up anything for some reason. its a waste of money for iPhone 4S

Not what I was hoping for

Given voice recognition technology, I think this app is a fail. It has the child say certain sounds, for example /m/. However, the child can say any sound at all, and it praises the child for getting it right. I would recommend using voice recognition software so a child only gets it correct if he pronounces it correctly. However, my nephew who has a phonological disorder loved it, and as long as I was near him and could reinforce him myself or shape his productions, it was useful.

Make sure you read what you are buying

It is a great app but it only works on sounds. You can say anything but the stimulus is at the phoneme level without the ability to repeat words. You have to tell your student what to say if you want words.

wish it worked

Got this for my son to encourage him to repeat sounds…and it does. but he can make any sound and it rewards him, not just the correct sound they are prompting. It worked fine for a few days until he completed the full run of lessons and games, and now (its been months actually) if we press play it crashes and goes back to the main screen on the iPad. we have to select menu and play the games individually. really annoying and EXTREMELY upsetting for my 2 year old.

Disappointed

Does not work. Lights turned green for correct sound when child was just talking and not even trying to produce sound. Would not recommend buying.

Helpful

This app helps my son not be so hesitant to practice. Thanks.
